Baptism, Admission to Communion & Confirmation

Christening / Baptism - Sunday mornings
It’s the start of an amazing journey of faith for you/your child and a special day for all your friends and family. During a christening you and/or your child will be baptized with water and promises are made to follow Christ that will help you to grow in your faith. You can find out more here

Admission to Communion before Confirmation - 10am Sunday 1st August 2021
Children at St George’s receive the bread and wine (the body and blood of Christ) after they have attended preparation classes. This is usually offered for 7 year olds upwards.

Confirmation - 10am Sunday 28th November 2021
Confirmation is a special church service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptized. If you were baptized at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ. At a confirmation service, you make these promises for yourself. Your friends and family as well as the local Christian community will be there to promise to support and pray for you.

Bishop Karowei will lay his hands on your head and ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life.

Gift Day

On the Feast of the Epiphany, we remember the Magi, who brought the baby Jesus gifts that signified so much of who he was and what he became.

We have so much to be thankful for this past year, despite all that has happened with the COVID-19 pandemic. A way of showing our thanks and gratitude in the church, is often by giving a monetary offering in addition to our regular tithe.

The Feast of the Epiphany seems an appropriate occasion to do so, and therefore, on Sunday 3rd January 2021 offerings can be brought to church, either for the service, or up until 12pm.

If you would rather give an offering to your local church on line, please do so here.

Christmas message 2020

2020 is a year I don’t think any of us will ever forget. Covid-19 has had a massive and sweeping effect on all of humankind. Many have suffered with ill health, lost loved ones, lost their jobs and without a doubt all of us at some point will have been isolated in some way.

It has been a very tough year and will be for some time to come. Living with uncertainty is hard; not knowing what or how things will be, is a constant reality in our lives today and a burden we all bear; even the simplest of tasks takes planning and care.

Uncertainty and isolation are having a huge impact on our mental health and general wellbeing. At St George’s we have been coming together over Zoom to worship and support one another, but we acknowledge it’s not the same.

The one certain and constant presence among all this chaos is God. A God who loves each and every one of us, his children. Advent is the time before Christmas when we prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s son and our Saviour.

As I write this we are in Tier 4 – uncertain of what this Christmas will be like. One certainty is that we will be celebrating Christ’s birth, we just don’t know if we can gather together in person or on Zoom. Please do keep an eye on our new website or our Facebook page for the details as we would love you to join us to give thanks for all we have and for God’s love, presented to us in Jesus Christ, born at Christmas.

May I be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas and a blessed and hopeful 2021.
